Counselling training FAQs for new and progressing students

Your questions on counselling training answered

Choosing the right counselling training can feel overwhelming, especially when you are not sure where to start or what each qualification means. Below are the questions we hear most often from students at all stages of their journey.

If you need help deciding which course is right for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll be happy to guide you.

Accreditation and professional recognition

Are your courses fully accredited?

Yes. Aloe Counselling Training is a CPCAB approved centre. CPCAB is the main awarding body in the UK specialising in counselling qualifications. CPCAB courses are nationally recognised and regulated, and they follow clear professional standards.

Do your courses allow me to join BACP or NCPS?

Yes. Completing CPCAB Levels 2 to 4 with us puts you on the recognised pathway toward individual membership with both BACP and NCPS. This is essential if you want to enter paid practice or build a long-term career in counselling.

Are your short online CPD courses recognised by professional bodies?

No. Short CPD workshops are designed for professional development, not for qualification routes. They are valuable for deepening skills but do not replace formal CPCAB qualifications.

Career outcomes and progression

Can your courses lead to paid work?

Yes. Many Level 4 graduates go on to work in the NHS, charities, schools and private practice. Level 4 is the qualification that prepares you for supervised client work, and it is widely accepted by employers and agencies.

How long does it take to become a qualified counsellor?

Most students take around three to four years to complete Levels 2 to 4, including supervised placement hours.

Course levels and entry requirements

How do I know which course to start with?

If you are unsure, visit our Counselling training courses page which explains available pathways in simple steps. Or you can contact us and we will help you choose the right starting point.

What is the difference between Levels 2, 3 and 4?

Level 2 introduces essential counselling skills. It helps you explore whether counselling is right for you.

Level 3 deepens your understanding of counselling concepts and prepares you for the professional diploma.

Level 4 Diploma is the professional training that leads to placement hours, supervised practice and readiness for employment.

Do I need experience before starting Level 2?

No. Level 2 is the standard entry point for most people. You do not need any prior counselling experience.

Study format and flexibility

Are your courses full time?

No. All our courses are part time and designed to fit around work, family and other commitments.

Do you offer online learning?

Yes. Some courses are offered online via live tutor led sessions. These are interactive, experiential and designed to feel as engaging as in person training. See our Online and face to face training page for more information.

Support and learning environment

Will I receive support during the course?

Yes. Your tutor will guide you throughout your course, offer feedback, answer questions and help you develop the self-awareness and skills needed for practice.

Location

Where are you based?

We are based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. We attract students from across the region and nationwide for online training.
